Leeds Rhinos vs Wigan Warriors 2/05/14

Leeds Rhinos came into this game at home in buoyant mood following the brilliant win over St Helens in the Challenge Cup last week and it didn't take long for the opponents to knock on to allow Leeds the perfect chance to score. And that they did through Danny McGuire who picked the ball up from Ryan Hall and he went over. It went to the video referee but it was never in doubt.  Kevin Sinfield added the conversion to make it 6-0.

On the 14th minute mark, Rhinos attacked yet again, giving Zak Hardaker the chance and space to  zone in on the try-line and he did so superbly and with one hand. Sir Kev missed the conversion but Leeds were ahead 10-0.

Wigan got back into it slowly and surely and it wasn't long before they got their try through Tony Clubb. Matty Smith added the conversion to make it 10-6.  Thereon in, the game was a brilliant show of hard-hitting defence between both sides. Three minutes before half-time however, Leeds managed to get their third try when Kallum Watkins hauled the ball to Tom Briscoe but not before brilliant work by Ryan Hall. Tom Briscoe stuck the ball over the line and Leeds were ahead 16-6 at the break when Sir Kev converted.

The second half started at an exhilarating pace when Ryan Hall produced a stunning run and showed us all what he is capable of and he went over the line. Sir Kev made sure his kicking boots were well and truly on and he converted to give Leeds the lead at 22-6.

Wigan's defence were holding firm for much of the second half as was Leeds' and a try for Leeds was disallowed for Joel Moon and this gave Wigan the momentum to go score what would be their consolation try. This time it came from Scott Taylor, Smith once again converted. At this point it was 22-12. However Leeds came back the strongest and after Sir Kev opted not to kick for goal, this gave a huge advantage to Leeds and Liam Sutcliffe who is proving to be a very good player for Leeds went over to score the pivotal try of the game. Sir Kev made it 5 out of 6 and the game finished 28-6.

Man of the Match goes to Zak Hardaker, he produced a wonderful display and also a stunning slide tackle to take Matt Bowen out of play. He's a bright player!

No injury doubts to tell you about, we still have Rob Burrow and JJB out.

Until next time!
