Leeds Rhinos 50-28 Wakefield Wildcats Boxing Day Festive Challenge 2014

So for our traditional Boxing Day game with Wakefield Wildcats, we decided on bringing the youngsters in as well as throwing in Adam Cuthbertson who made his debut. And it paid off big time as Ash Handley grabbed himself 5, yes you saw that right...FIVE tries.

However it was Wakefield who got off to a flying start, going 0-12 up within the first 12 minutes of the game. However Stevie Ward pulled a try back but that was to be followed by a Wakefield try who extended their lead.

18-6 after 18 minutes, the Rhinos then began to get a foothold on the game with Ash Handley getting his first and the scores were level not long after after a great try from Danny McGuire, Liam Sutcliffe was assigned the kicking duties I should add here.

Handley then added two more tries to his haul, both were assisted by Tom Briscoe and that gave the Rhinos a good lead to take into half-time.

The second half came and Rhinos scored twice and it was the man of the match Ash Handley with his two tries to make it a golden haul of 5. The latter try coming from him palming off FOUR Wakefield players to cross the whitewash.

Liam Sutcliffe who kicked 5 from 7 conversion attempts did score a wonderful try of his own. The score at this point was 44-18.

Elliot Minchella scored the 9th try for Rhinos and the score was 50-18 until two late tries from Wakefield took it up to 50-28.

Overall a good exercise for the youngsters of the Rhinos and I have to say Ashton Golding is starting to really show a lot of promise as well as Ash Handley and Elliot Minchella.

Traditional Boxing Day game. (Wakefield Wildcats vs Leeds Rhinos 26/12/14)

So we are to face Wakefield Wildcats next Friday in the traditional Boxing Day showpiece. Does this mean we will see Adam Cuthbertson make his debut (unofficially of course!) for the club and will the youngsters like Liam Sutcliffe, Josh Walters and Robbie Mulhern also see some game time? I surely hope so.

We will see our former boys Paul McShane and Ian Kirke face us and that will obviously be bittersweet for them but also nice for them to try get one over us. Which won't happen hehe.

Anyway after the whole Christmas celebrations are over, I will blog about the game complete with pictures.

See you then!

Looking ahead to the new season. 2014/15

With the new season looming upon us, I thought I'd write a pre-season blog about the Rhinos at the current moment.

Adam Cuthbertson

Having signed Adam from Newcastle Knights, I have seen videos of him and as far as I can tell, he is a very astute signing. Powerful and full of determination, I am looking forward to seeing what he can do for Leeds Rhinos in the coming months.

Blooding youngsters

So it seems instead of signing new players bar Adam Cuthbertson, we are going to blood our youngsters which is a good thing for me because we have a range of talent in Brad Singleton and Liam Sutcliffe along with the likes of Josh Walters and Robbie Mulhern.  If it works for other clubs, then I can't see why it would not work for us. Good luck to the aforementioned for the coming season.

The new home and away kit.

Now as far as kits go, the new ones that have been released by Rhinos are for me very very good. I love the home kit because the sponsor is less bulky and takes up less space than previous shirts and the two contrasts of blue really work well together.

The away kit which was released 02/12/2014 is also superb and has been getting lots of praise from fans far and wide. I cannot wait to see these shirts being displayed throughout the season.

I would also like to take this opportunity for not blogging in the latter part of the season. This season will be different as I will blog on ALL games.  Thanks for reading this blog and enjoy the blogs in the next few months. :)
